History of the Bra

The history of the bra is extensive. Almost since the dawn of time women have worn bra's either to enhance or minimize their figure. Bust-lines have been increased and decreased, rounded and stretched and even spread out throughout time following society's trends and fashions.

Bra's have been worn by women the world over since 2000 BC, when the first corset, created of leather was worn to support and outline the breasts. The ancient Greeks wore a type of bra that pushed the breasts upwards but left the breast itself naked.

During the 13th century, the practice of minimizing the breasts became very popular. Women often wore short bodices that flattened rather than enhanced a woman's bodice. This changed however during the 15th century when a women's chest became the focal point of her garments... it was popular for the upper portion of the breast to be pushed above the garments worn by a woman in order to give the appearance of full cleavage and a rounded bodice.

Trends in Modern Bra Wear

Bras are in. Today bras can be fashioned to meet any persons unique style and comfort preferences. In recent years plus and full size bras have become the norm, as more and more women turn to plastic surgery to enhance their bust line. In some cities it isn't uncommon to see women who might be categorized as DD's, EE's and even FF's thanks to modern technology.

Fortunately, there is a bra available to fit almost any woman anywhere. There are even bras that are fashioned as "outer wear". Celebrities are among the more common members of society to tout such bold and daring styles.

Different Bra Types

Many different bra types have been created since the early days of it's existence. No longer do women have to struggle to fit their upper body and chest into contraptions made of whalebone and steel (the common materials used to fashion early corsets). Rather, today's traditional bras are made of a variety of luxurious fabrics, meant to support, uplift, enhance and show off a woman's breasts (though you can still find some that minimize, which for many women is a bonus).

See through and sheer bras, specialty bras, nursing and maternity bras, sports bras and even strapless and backless bras are all the rage in modern times. There is a bra available to fit any bust size and any individual style preference available. You can even have a bra custom made if you like. Though the corset is not completely banned from existence, new designs make wearing the contraption or similar ones much more feasible, and women no longer have to suffer pain and discomfort from wearing them.

Interestingly, the bra did not gain popularity until about the 1920s during the time of the flappers when a flat chest was suddenly in, and women looked to minimize their bust line rather than enhance it.

Among the first companies to jump on the bra making bandwagon during this time was the Maidenform Company, who created bra sizes in different bust size categories. As the breast minimizing trend of the early 20s faded and society entered the 30s, the idea of shape as acceptable became popular again, and Maidenform made an effort to make bras that would meet every woman's needs, including plus and full size bras.

Warner's was among the first to create a cup sizing system that ranged from size A to size D, which are still standard sizes.

At no time does a bra prove more useful than during exercise or during pregnancy/maternity. You can rest assured that sports bra's which provide support during intense physical activity are most appreciated by women with large chests. Can you imagine what it is like to run without one?

Pregnant women now have nursing and maternity bras available to them, which make breastfeeding in public a much more easily accomplished task. New designs enable discreet feeding and offer comfortable support at a time when a woman's breast size may change or fluctuate in a time span of weeks or months. Some of the more popular varieties are fashioned after the sports bra style, that allow for fluctuations in size.

Finding the Right Fit

Fit is EVERYTHING when it comes to wearing a bra. More than 90% of the female population at one time or another buys a bra that doesn't fit properly. Fortunately you can easily measure yourself to ensure that you get a proper fit.

Finding the right bra size depends on two things: band size and cup size. Band size is usually measured in numbers, and generally ranges from 32 to 40+ (even numbers only). Cup size is alphabetical, and as discussed can range from an A to an EE or more.

To measure your chest you'll need a tape measure. Wrap the tap lightly around your rib cage just below your bust line. You should then add five inches to this measurement, and that is your band size.

To measure your cup size, loosely wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the bust. For most women this is about where the nipple falls, or about mid-breast. You should then subtract the measurement you get from your band size. The difference measured equates to your cup size and runs as follows:

1 inch - A cup
2 inches - B cup
3 inches - C cup
4 inches - D cup

There are many thoughts on which bras are best. Some women prefer under wire bras because they believe they offer the best support. For some women, including nursing women however, under wire versions can be uncomfortable. Fortunately there is an incredibly broad selection of no wire bras that are flattering and just as supportive as their wire counterparts.

If you are not sure which you prefer, I recommend trying one of each. It won't take long before you decide which works best for you.

I liked this bra enough that I got it in seven colours. It's wonderful to have some choice of colour whilst being sporty. The swirly ones are particularly fun. The "nectar" one is rather more orange than peach in tone, but not at all bad.

If you take your exercise really seriously, as I do, then you'll find that air flow in the cleavage isn't as free as you'd like. Of course, this is a reasonable design compromise. You'd lose support if the cleavage were more open, so I'm certainly not going to ding them for that. Just get ready to sweat freely (or glow, if you're being ladylike).

As far as I'm concerned, the biggest flaw is that the manufacturer doesn't offer matching compression shorts. This can hardly be held as a criticism of the bras themselves. I found that Mizono makes shorts in a bunch of interesting colours. The full spectum of colours generally doesn't seem to be available from Amazon vendors, but I had no trouble getting them by googling.

As far as sizing goes, I wear a 36c (Vickie's Secret sizing) and 36c of this bra worked just fine for me. Were I to do anything particularly high-impact, I might be inclined to go down a band size, but probably not even then.

I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because the seaming on the bra shows through your shirt. It is great functionally for high impact sports (running, aerobics), but is annoying seeing the lines. I have it in white, and it is nice and thick, not see through even after sweating, which I appreciate if I wasn't going to wear a shirt over this.

The title here really says it all. (To give some background, I am a trail runner and also practice yoga.)
I was wary of the price (I bought the nectar color, so ) because I am a poor student, but I decided to just take the plunge and buy one. Let me tell you, this is by far the best sports bra I've ever had. I'm not that chesty (34A), but regardless, my opinion is that this bra is SO comfortable. I feel like "the gals" are secure but not in any way squooshed and my breathing is fine. I'll definitely be buying some more of these, now that I know that quality comes along with the price(which is, sadly, not always the case)!

I originally got this bra three years ago at the store. At that time, I had also purchased some other bras from Target, priced at /each and higher end athletic wear lines, paying /bra. I'm the type of athlete that expects my gear to last a few years. So when I went to order some new bras, I looked at which of the brands held up the best. This bra was by far in the best condition after the three year period. Still supportive and little fading...I still wear it to go trail running in. Thank goodness the tag was still readable. I went online, googled the name, found it on Amazon and ordered two more!!! Nothing has changed as far as the cut/structure of the bra because it's a great supportive fit. The manufacturer did change the fabric to a different type. Hopefully it too will wear as well as the first one I still wear. Very happy with this bra. I hope they still make it 3 years from now when I go to order more!

A Loose Leaf Tea Experience

In America, just about 90 percent of folks drink their tea brewed by tea bag. It is the same routine, pour hot water into a cup and dunk the bag for a few minutes until the water turns a dark red color, add sugar and enjoy.

My question is, what are these folks enjoying?

A few years back, I too was the victim of tea bag tea. I, being an American, remained ignorant of the true way tea was meant to be enjoyed. Not only would I have tea just when I was sick, but along with the 90 percent of Americans I would brew it using fannings.

Fanning are tiny pieces of dried out tea leaves which always end up inside of the tea bags folks use to make their daily brew. Fannings are the lowest grading of tea, and for good reason. They may add a nice full color to your cup, but as for flavor, well, very little.

There are not many natural oils left in these particles to offer a cup that treats the palate. Also, research shows that most of the health benefits of tea are reduced when they are broken down in to such small pieces.

So is there really a better way to enjoy tea and reap the benefits? Yes...

Thanks to an article I read in a newspaper while at work, I was introduced to loose leaf tea. The article was focused around the most delicate form of tea called white tea. Not only did I learn in this article that all tea came from the same Camellia sinensis tea plant, but I also learned about the flavorful and healthy benefits of loose leaf tea. That is when a whole new world opened up for me. I have discovered a new beverage!

Later that day I went on the internet and found an online tea outlet which offered over a hundred varieties of loose teas. Not really knowing much about this form of tea at the time, I placed an order for white peony loose leaf tea, and bought a cup with an infuser.

When it arrived, I brewed it carefully and eagerly took my first sip. My first impression of an airy aroma accompanied by a subtle sweet taste was one I did not expect nor will I forget. "This is tea", I said out loud, and by the time that cup was finished I became hooked! Since then, I have experienced over one hundred varieties of tea to date.

Tea is a 5000-year-old beverage and the second most consumed drink in the world; playing second fiddle only to water. Brewing it using whole loose leaves in an infuser is simply the best way to consume and enjoy this great beverage. There are literally thousands of varieties of tea, all which are processed from the four main white, green, oolong, and black types.

Comparing loose leaf tea to the tea bag is like comparing gourmet coffee to instant coffee. It's like comparing a meal from a fancy restaurant to one from a fast food place. The difference is night and day. Remember this, the only thing that should be dunked in a tea cup is a sweet biscuit or crumpet, not a bag.

Loose leaf tea offers a superior cup full of flavor and health benefits. The brew is rich in powerful antioxidants which many studies suggest can aid in a healthier lifestyle. While tea is not an actual preventative or cure for any deadly health ailment, it has proven to at least help decrease the odds.

Tea for me is like having a warm friend by my side whenever I want. Since I quit smoking, I needed an alternative and tea fits that spot perfectly. Thanks to tea I gave up coffee in the morning and switched to the healthier alternative, black tea.

Loose leaf tea also makes me feel good, keeps my immune system up, and always gives me something new to look forward to since there are still many hundreds of varieties of tea I'm yet to sample! Tea, in my opinion is the best beverage period! A super drink for all.

This beverage has inspired me to build a website which at the time of this writing has 107 pages full of rich helpful information about this lovely drink. The goal of this site along with this article is to introduce folks to the other side of tea they are missing out on. With so many varieties, there is bound to be a cup you will call your favorite.

So, the next time you brew tea and find yourself opening that box containing those dried up tea bags, remember that there is a better way, a superior way...and leave the dunking for the donuts!

OLTL Starr & Cole & Baby Hope & Dani Scenes 1-29-10

Cole appears with Hope, and Dani reluctantly holds her but quickly enjoys her new niece. Later, over talk of how Starr and Cole are making it as parents, Dani thinks about Ross and says he'd freak out if she was sleeping with a boy. Dani quickly covers and says, "I mean, he would have." Starr comforts her, as Dani talks about her memories of Ross, saying, "I can't imagine ever feeling that toward your dad. When Cole rejoins them and tells Starr that he and Hope are ready, she expresses wanting to stay home today with Dani. After Cole leaves, just as Starr and Dani are making plans for the day, Tea arrives, and Dani rants at Tea for Todd's visit earlier. Once she calms down, Tea asks, "How would you like to go to school in Llanview, with Starr?" Dani is ecstatic that she doesn't have to go back to boarding school! While Dani goes off to get dressed, for enrollment, Starr admits to Tea that Dani isn't doing so well - where Todd is concerned.( I Love These Scenes)
